Back in 2010, small and mid-sized water utilities were operating in the dark. The EPA estimated hundreds of thousands of pipe breaks each year, but the software to prevent them was too complex and expensive. As a result, many agencies relied on spreadsheets, paper work orders, and the philosophy of "fix it when it breaks."
EPIC decided to change that. With backing from a Small Business Innovation Research grant, we built an infrastructure intelligence system code-named Neptune. The idea was simple: give every utility instant, map-based access to its own asset and budget data. That research became the technical foundation for Simplify i3®. Today, this integrated platform helps public agencies move from reactive patchwork to proactive operations.
